The Cinemafia Manifesto

Gang,

It’s not the luck of the Irish you need, but the fighting spirit of that mean little bastard on the Notre Dame logo instead. There’s not a single person reading this that doesn’t have a gift or passion. Sometimes we’re unsure of what those are because we’ve been conditioned to believe that only a few lucky people ever get to follow their dreams. Sometimes we’re told what to dream rather than find our authentic vision of our lives. However, more often than not we’re somewhat supported in a polite way while always being cautioned that we’re good, but not that good. Things just don’t happen that easily. It’s tough out there on your own.

Those cautious voices surrounding us have solid facts about real concerns about us being crushed by the possibility of failure. They tasted it themselves. They want to save us some pain. It’s not that they don’t think we’re great, it’s just that the odds are so stacked against us. You’re lucky if you can even save up for retirement or afford your rent. Why take the risk?

Because if you love what you do there’s nothing else worth doing. No matter what the financial outcome is. Is it a gift to store up your treasures on earth and live long enough to only have a list of what-could-have-beens to review while wondering what happens when you die? You might be so lucky…

Or you may be lucky enough to know what your abilities and talents are and have a chance to use them at any given moment on your level of enjoyment without constraints. There’s only one way you get to be that lucky…you’ve got to be willing to fight for it. Get in the ring. Get on the stage. Go to your creative space. Be booed. Make mistakes. Let people criticize you. Have folks tell you nice things only to back away when you need a favor. Get knocked down. Get back up again.

Fight. But have a plan. That's what I learned from everyone this week.

So I wrote a business plan for you folks to gaze upon. I’m not worried about it being ripped off because I’m the only person who can pull it off. But if you’re interested in coming along for the adventure, you’ve got everything you need to know. If you’ve got constructive criticism or advice based on your real experience in music, marketing, sales, finance, management, pop culture, entertainment, production, small business strategy, and business law…I’d love to hear it! Or if you’re just curious what wild crap I’m on to now, take a look.

Love,

Gary

P.S.

Robert, Andrew, Patrick, Jeff, Omar, and all the great talent at Kinda Vague Records Music Fest…thanks for always giving 💯 to the audience. You love us, we love you, let’s keep spreading the love.
